If today’s Delhi has a defining moment, it was when a flood of refugees who came from the Northwest started flowing into the city around August of 1947. These refugees invented a new city out of King George’s Extravaganza of Stone and Marble, and nowhere is the triumph of these people, who were cut off from everything they’d known overnight and found themselves into an entirely alien land, more visible than Khan Market, which today stands as the symbol for the finest things known to man. It is said that trauma reaches a place not even memory can, but there is something more inherent in human nature, which can transcend borders and trauma — the human spirit. This walk, most importantly, stands as a testament to the human spirit.
